Saturday Night Fever at Storyhouse, Chester - Preview

The summer holidays are well and truly over and after enjoying 6 weeks with both my husband and children, I would be lying if I said I wasn't missing them today. However, every cloud has a silver lining and whilst I am a little sad about waving goodbye to the summer sunshine, I am incredibly excited about Autumn and some of the events that are lined up for the North West over the coming months.

You may have seen on previous blog posts that Storyhouse in Chester is one of my favourite theatres and I feel so fortunate to have this fantastic arts facility just minutes away from our home. The upcoming Autumn schedule is absolutely jam-packed full of some incredible shows and what better way to start the season than with Bill Kenwright's reimagined and revitalised stage version of cult film Saturday Night Fever.

Disco fever will be descending on the Storyhouse from Tuesday 10th September to Saturday 14th September when this smash hit show arrives in the city and tickets are on sale now.

Saturday Night Fever tells the story of Tony Manero and his reckless yet thrilling road to dancing success. It is directed and produced by Bill Kenwright, with choreography by Olivier Award winning Bill Deamer, designs by Gary McCann, lighting by Nick Richings, and sound by Dan Samson. The stage adaptation is by Robert Stigwood in collaboration with Bill Oakes.

West End star Richard Winsor reprises his role as Tony Manero, stepping into the iconic white suit for the Autumn 2019 tour. He has performed around the world, starring as the principle dancer with Matthew Bourne for 10 years. He then landed the lead role in the cult dance film StreetDance 3D and later went on to play Caleb Knight in the BBC flagship medical drama Casualty.

Richard Winsor will be joined by Olivia Fines (Stephanie), Brandon Gale (Double J), Owen Broughton (Gus), Ross Clifton (Joey), and Will Luckett (Bobbie C).

In this newly updated and reimagined musical revival, which launched in August 2018, the cast will also be joined on stage by Danny Knott, Jake Byrom and James Kenneth Haughan in the roles of the Bee Gees, singing the hit soundtrack of all the disco classics.

Completing the cast are Faizal Jay (DJ Monty), Grant Neal (Frank Senior), Melody Jones (Flo Manero), Natasha Firth (Annette), and Phil Mennell (Frank Junior).

The ensemble features Benjamin Harrold, Brett Shiels, Fletcher Dobinson, Grace Swaby, Helen Gulston, Jade Heusen, Robert Anthony, Sophie Sass, and Zoe Heighton.

The musical features the Bee Gees' greatest hits including Stayin' Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever, Tragedy and More Than a Woman, as well as 1970's favourites Boogie Shoes, Disco Inferno and, for the first time, will feature a group playing the Bee Gees live.

Preview - The Snowman Tour 2018 comes to Warrington's Parr Hall

The summer holidays now seem like a distant memory, so as we enter September my thoughts now turn to the excitement and enjoyment of Christmas. The festive season is my absolute favourite time of year and as a family we enjoy many Christmas events and activities.

Most families will have their own little Christmas traditions, such as going to a pantomime, enjoying a breakfast with Santa or preparing and opening Christmas Eve boxes. For my family though, one of our favourite things to do, is to cuddle up on the sofa and enjoy The Snowman together on Christmas Eve, which is something I also did with my parents too, when I was a child.

I was therefore delighted to learn more about The Snowman Tour from Carrot Productions which is heading to Warrington Parr Hall for one day only on Thursday 20th December 2018. There will be two performances with one being at 1:30pm and another in the evening at 7pm.

Parr Hall is easily accessible by public transport with Warrington Bank Quay train station being only a two minute walk away and Warrington Central train station and Warrington Bus Station being an easy seven minute stroll. There is also limited parking available for patrons at the rear of the venue if you wish to visit by car.

Tickets are on sale now and audience members will be in for an absolute treat as families can enjoy a beautiful presentation of this iconic film, whilst being accompanied by a live orchestra. A young soloist, who is local to the area, will also be performing the breathtaking 'Walking in the Air' solo and I cannot wait to see this song being performed live.

My youngest son who is five, has never experienced the wonder of a live orchestra before, so this is set to be the perfect introduction for him. With music being performed by some of the top musicians in the country, many of whom are members of orchestras such as The Halle and the BBC Philarmonic, this is sure to be an incredible moment for him and I cannot wait to see his face light up with wonder and delight!

The Snowman experience will also include a special visit from the organisation's very own snowman and I am sure that this will be very magical for the younger members of the audience.

Visitors to the Warrington performances, will also be treated to a second animated film of the award-winning book* 'The Bear and the Piano', written by David Litchfield, with a musical score by Daniel Whibley and narration by the wonderful Joanna Lumley. This is sure to add to the overall experience and my family and I are really looking forward to enjoying this production.

However, if Warrington Parr Hall is too far for you to travel, then don't worry, as this magical experience will be visiting a total of 16 different venues across the country including seven cathedrals in Blackburn, Chester, Durham, Gloucester, Lichfield, Liverpool and Winchester. A full list of all the tour dates and venues can be found here: https://www.carrotproductions.com/the-snowman/.

Some venues will also feature a special screening of a world exclusive, in the form of 'A Donkey's Tale' which tells the heart warming story of Dillon. An ordinary donkey, with an extraordinary dream, which takes him on a life-changing journey. This has been specially written and composed by Daniel Whibley and has been commissioned by Carrot Productions for audiences to enjoy. To find out whether your nearest venue is showing 'The Bear and the Piano' or 'A Donkey's Tale', then you can visit the Carrot Productions website to obtain the most up to date information.

Tickets are expected to sell out fast, so for further information or tour details please visit: www.carrotproductions.com

Liverpool Pride Festival Announce the Return of 'We Are Family' Programme

Free fun filled family friendly community focused Sunday event returns with headline act Marcus Collins plus tons of fun family activities!

We are family returns to Liverpool Pride for a second year this July following the rapturous response received from last year's event. The free family event drew a huge crowd in its first year and is set to come back bigger and better for 2017.

The fun filled day will be held at St George's Quarter on Sunday 30th July between 11am and 5pm and Liverpool Pride are inviting families of all ages from across the Liverpool City Region to join the celebration with an afternoon filled with fun activities, workshops and a jam-packed programme of live entertainment.

Families attending can enjoy a whole host of fun activities including inflatables, fairground rides, international dance and arts and crafts stalls. There will also be international food stalls and bars across the festival site serving up a range of tasty treats.

Headlining the Barclays main stage is Liverpool local Marcus Collins who shot to fame in 2011 when he appeared on popular ITV talent search The XFactor. Most recently Marcus appeared in smash hit musical Kinky Boots on London's West End.

Promising to put on a great show for his hometown audience Marcus said, "I cannot wait to headline the Sunday Stage this year and look forward to meeting new and old friends for what is going to be an incredible family weekend."

Joining Marcus on Sunday's line up are boyband 5 to 5 who will perform a medley of songs from upcoming musical The Band. Don't miss your chance to see an exclusive preview of songs from the smash hit musical before it goes on tour, which includes Liverpool Empire Theatre next January.

Returning to Liverpool Pride for 2017 is Jennifer John & Merseyside Choirs. Jennifer has been working closely with choirs from across the Liverpool City Region to create a choral performance based around this year's Liverpool Pride theme of International Love. Audiences are invited to sing along to classics that celebrate the theme of the weekend.

Headline sponsor Barclays will also be holding free informative sessions for children and parents. Code Playground offers a fun way to learn the basics of coding. The 2-hour session is designed for children aged 7-17 to learn the basics and develop digital skills for the future, book a place by visiting bit.ly/LiverpoolPrideCP. We Are Family was launched by Liverpool Pride Festival in 2016 in acknowledgement of family and friends from the wider community who support the LGBT+ movement. The event allows the LGBT+ community to open the doors of the Pride Festival to all communities, friends and family, allowing them to join in the Pride celebrations through a range of activities and performances spreading a message of acceptance and equality.

Michael Carey, from Liverpool Pride Festival, said: "We are very excited to bring back We Are Family for its second year. Last year's event was a huge success, it was great to see residents from all over the Liverpool City Region come together for a celebration of all things LGBT+. In the 50th year since the legislation of homosexuality it seems even more poignant to stand side by side with the wider community in celebration of the City's diversity."

Liverpool Pride Festival 2017 offers a week-long programme of activity which culminates with a two-day event on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July. The festival is returning for its second year to Liverpool's iconic St George's Quarter and features the well-established Liverpool Pride March on the Saturday.

Liverpool Pride Festival is now a key highlight in the city's Summer events programme, attracting more than 25,000 people each year to attend, take part and support the annual LGBT Festival.
