Roll Up, Roll Up to Goldilocks and the Three Bears at St Helens Theatre Royal This Christmas

Goldilocks and the Three Bears comes to St Helens Theatre Royal this Christmas and producers have recently announced that Hollyoaks favourite David Tag will appear as the Ringmaster. The spectacular seasonal production promises St Helens audiences a fantastic festive treat complete with madcap comedy capers and all the fun of the circus.

The theatre's Christmas pantomimes have become a real highlight of the festive season year after year, and with Goldilocks, audiences are being guaranteed 'the greatest show on earth'.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears will run at St Helens Theatre Royal from Friday 10th December 2021 to Sunday 9th January 2022 and tickets are on sale now.

David Tag, who will take on the role of Ringmaster, is best known for playing Sylvester 'Sylver' McQueen in award-winning Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks where his character has been involved in a number of key storylines.

The Manchester born star has also enjoyed roles in Emmerdale and the 2020 coming-of-age drama S.A.M, which has been a hit at a host of British film festivals. And he can next be seen as Prince Charming in a new short film.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears marks his pantomime debut, and the actor says: "I'm really thrilled to be cast in my first panto and I can't wait to get started."

The rest of the all-star cast will be announced soon.

The magical show from Regal Entertainments Ltd promises family fun, unbelievable circus tricks and lots of excitement as Goldilocks, with the help of the Three Bears, tries to save her Big Top from a rival circus owner.

Audiences can also expect high production values, stunning and colourful costumes, laugh out loud comedy and a fantastic selection of chart hits to sing and dance along to.

Theatre Manager Chantelle Nolan says: "Our pantomimes have become one of the real highlights of Christmas for many people.

"We had to cut last year's panto short because of pandemic restrictions, while our Easter show was streamed online. So we really can't wait to get back on stage and present Goldilocks to our audiences in person this season. It's a magical show full of fun, excitement and laughter.

"And we're also absolutely delighted to welcome David into the St Helens panto family - I know he's going to make a fantastic Ringmaster for our unmissable Christmas circus."

St Helens Theatre Royal will ensure that any government guidelines still required in December will be in place to ensure the safety of theatregoers, venue staff, cast and crew.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears will run at St Helens Theatre Royal from Friday 10th December 2021 to Sunday 9th January 2022. Tickets are on sale now starting from £16. Tickets can be booked over the phone or in person at the box office between 10am and 5pm, from Monday to Friday. Tickets can also be purchased online. For more information please visit

Blackpool Tower Circus Pantomime Review - Pinocchio

Last weekend we were invited along to visit Blackpool Tower Circus and review their 2019 pantomime production of Pinocchio. My family and I are regular visitors to pantomimes throughout the North West and often review quite a few during the year, but this one was of particular interest to me for a couple of reasons, so we happily accepted the invitation.

Firstly, we have never seen a pantomime version of Pinocchio before and secondly I was very intrigued as to how a circus could combine with a festive show and make it enjoyable. I therefore told the children that we were off to watch a pantomime with a difference and we excitedly made our way to Blackpool.

There was plenty of parking nearby and the Blackpool Tower Circus is very easy to find. We had tickets booked for the 1pm show, so I collected these from the ticket desk approximately 20 minutes before the show was due to start. I was surprised to see that seats were not allocated, so as we made our way to the circus entrance, I was a little worried in case there were not five seats together. I needn't have worried however as there was plenty of seating and we had no problem whatsoever in finding somewhere with a good view.

The seats were comfortable and well raised, so even if a really tall person was to sit in front of you, then you would still be able to see all of the show very clearly. The circus cast were already in the ring when we arrived offering face painting or the chance to buy some plate spinners and flashing lights. We were told by the ringmaster that the show would start promptly so if you missed your chance to purchase goods before the show, then there would be a second chance during the interval.

The running time of the show is 2 hours with an interval, so we got comfy with our drinks and snacks and waited for the show to begin. We had no idea what to expect, so my husband and I were just as excited as the kids to see how the story would be interpreted and performed.

The show was a quite a loose retelling of the story, but featured all the main characteristics with an added modern twist. All the pantomime elements that you would expect featured throughout, whilst being cleverly combined with outstanding circus skills. From the very beginning we were fascinated and I loved watching Riley's reaction to some of the acts as they took to the ring.

The performers are all extremely talented and the show features the fabulous clowns Mooky and Mr Boo who did not disappoint. In the first half alone, we were treated to jaw dropping stunts, comedy antics, incredible fast paced dance routines and a stunning and innovative water scene that was simply spectacular.

Riley was mesmerised as we watched Pinocchio's adventures and he laughed continuously throughout the show. Mooky the Clown was marvellous as the little wooden puppet and we felt that the whole production was really clever.

During the interval we purchased some ice cream which was £3 per tub and waited patiently for the show to recommence. The second half brought even more acts of strength, skill and stamina, whilst Riley repeatedly kept saying WOW each time someone performed.

Our highlight though was the 12 Days of Christmas act, which is one of our favourite parts of any pantomime. We always love seeing which props are involved and this rendition was no exception. It was hilarious from start to finish and Riley screamed with excitement when he saw all the water guns!

Overall we absolutely loved Blackpool Tower Circus' version of Pinocchio. It was entertaining from start to finish and also had quite a few heart in mouth moments, when the performers were completing incredible acts high up in the air. We loved how different it was to other pantomimes we have visited and my children thought it was fantastic. There was a great range of variety during the show with some mesmerising performances, which provided a really enjoyable experience. I would happily recommend the Blackpool Tower Circus Pantomime to others and I have no doubt that we will definitely visit again in the future.

Gandey's Circus - The Greatest Show Tour - A Review

We were recently invited along to Gandey's Circus which is currently at Aintree in Liverpool until the 3rd of March as part of its current UK tour. I haven't visited the circus since I was a young child and was therefore excited and intrigued to experience the 'The Greatest Show' and find out exactly what it could offer for family entertainment.

From the moment we arrived my youngest son Riley was amazed by the giant circus tent and kept asking what would be inside. He was running around excitedly trying to take a peek through the entrance whilst I was waiting to collect our tickets from the box office. He soon stopped in his tracks though as the smartly dressed ringmaster walked past and gave him a smile and a wave.

Once we had collected our tickets, we made our way into the foyer area where there was a variety of food and drink stands, along with a stall that sold the popular flashing toys and wands. Riley immediately spotted a brightly coloured sword that had colour changing lights and was priced at £6. I felt that this was very reasonable compared to some event stalls that we have seen before, so I had no issue in purchasing one for him to wave around.

As we entered the show arena, we handed over our ticket and were directed where to take our seats. The seats aren't numbered so you can simply choose where you would like to sit, as long as it is in the area that you have paid for. We managed to get some great seats a few rows up from the front, which gave us a great view throughout the show. The time slot we attended was really popular so whilst waiting for all the guests to take their seats there was also the opportunity to have your face painted or have a mascot photograph in the circus ring for a small charge, which I thought was a great idea.

Once everyone was seated the show began to start and we were introduced to the full cast singing and performing. It was a superb beginning and really set the standard high. My children were in their element singing and clapping along and they sat captivated waiting to see what happened next.

The show advertising states "You've never seen anything like it!" and they are not wrong. Every single act which took to the ring was absolutely incredible and the talent of each person was outstanding. The acrobats spun and flew through the air as they attempted high flying flips and bounces on a thin bar supported only by the strength of two people. My whole family watched in amazement as the acts continued, always excited to see what was next.

The Garcia Brothers performed an act of amazing strength as they balanced on one hand whilst carrying out a superb gymnastic routine. They made everything look so easy, yet in reality it must take so many years of training to get to the high standard they are at. We really liked the fact that each act had a great soundtrack to it with popular well known songs that matched perfectly to the performance.

One of my favourite acts of the evening was a romantic aerial ballet performance that had me completely mesmerised. An extremely talented duo climbed high above the ring and supported themselves on the silk drapes whilst providing a breathtaking and beautiful display together involving acrobatics, spins, drops and dance. However, just when we thought it couldn't get anymore spectacular, we were presented with the giant space wheel and sat on the edge of our seats as two extremely talented acrobats attempted somersaults, runs and flips whilst the wheel spun round at speed. They even attempted it whilst blindfolded which was unbelievable!

In between all the acts the audience was kept entertained by loveable clown Chico Rico who provided plenty of belly laughs and fun. There were also numerous opportunities for audience participation along with jokes and comedy suitable for the whole family.

Before we knew it the first half was over and it was the interval. The show was so fast paced and entertaining that an hour had passed really quickly. The 15 minute break allowed plenty of time to purchase some snacks or pop to the toilet and there was a further opportunity again for face painting in the circus ring along with a raffle to win a cuddly toy.

The second half was just as incredible as the first and at one point the award winning circus stars Duo Garcia performed high flying acrobatics on a soaring rocket that spun at speed around the circus top. It definitely had an element of fear and at one point one of the performers was hanging by only one foot at a great height with NO safety nets. It was definitely a heart stopping moment!

The finale saw three motorbikes enter the 'globe of death' which saw them drive around at speed whilst narrowly avoiding one another. At some points it literally looked like they were only millimetres away from one another and that they could collide at any moment, but incredibly they completed the act with precision to a great round of applause.

Overall this circus show was everything we had hoped it would be and more. It was absolutely action packed from start to finish and my children have not stopped talking about it since. Everything from the dazzling costumes to the music was just perfect and it was quite incredible to see so many talented performers all in one show. Gandeys Circus The Greatest Show really does live up to it's name and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour to families.
